These oven-baked honey Sriracha chicken wings are a cultural mashup of Vietnamese, Chinese, and American.
These make a fantastic party appetizer, perfect for highlighting cultural diversity or simply serving a delicious, flavor-packed dish.
If you like sweet and spicy, these oven-baked chicken wings are for you.
For this recipe, I start with a savory marinade based in Chinese five-spice, and for the Southeast Asian/Vietnamese component, minced lemongrass and fish sauce.
Once baked, brush the wings with the honey sriracha mixture for a shiny finishing coat. The result is packed full of flavor, and I truly love that sticky, sweet, and spicy glaze.

What is Sriracha Sauce?
While it’s commonly spotted in Asian restaurants, the iconic Sriracha rooster sauce is actually an American product, created in California.
Sriracha is a very popular chili sauce with the most popular brand by Huy Fong Foods. It’s made primarily from a puree of red chili peppers, vinegar, garlic, sugar, and salt. The resulting flavor is spicy, tangy, slightly sweet, and garlicky.
In Vietnamese cuisine in the States, it is famously known as the chili sauce of choice to enjoy with Phở (Vietnamese beef noodle soup).
For this baked wing recipe, that signature garlicky, spicy kick pairs nicely with the sweet honey.
What You Will Need
To make this fusion baked chicken wing appetizer, gather the following ingredients:
- Chicken: I’m using wing flats. You can use a combination of flats and drumettes.
- Aromatics: Minced lemongrass (optional) and garlic. I’m using garlic powder here, but you can also use minced fresh garlic or a combination of both.
- Seasonings: Chinese cooking wine (optional but recommended), five-spice powder, ground black pepper, soy sauce, oyster sauce, fish sauce, honey, and Sriracha.
- Glaze: Sriracha and honey for brushing on at the end to create the sticky, sweet, and spicy glaze.
- Optional garnishes: Toasted white sesame seeds and/or thinly sliced green onions.

How to Make Honey Sriracha Wings
Step 1: Marinate chicken
In a medium mixing bowl, add all seasoning ingredients. Mix until combined. Add chicken and toss to evenly coat. Marinate for at least 30 minutes or overnight covered in the fridge for best results.
Step 2: Preheat and bake
Preheat oven to 400°F. Spread chicken wings in a single layer on a wire rack over a baking sheet. Bake for 30 to 35 minutes, flipping halfway through.
Step 3: Prepare glaze

Step 4: Broil and finish
Brush wings with glaze, switch oven to broil (400°F for about 2 minutes). Broil until golden brown. Flip and repeat. Transfer to a serving platter and enjoy! You can also top the wings with toasted sesame seeds or thinly sliced green onions for a beautiful finish.

FAQs
Can I use Whole Chicken Thighs and Drumsticks?
Bigger pieces like whole thighs and drumsticks will require a bit more cooking time (about 50 minutes total). It’s also best to marinate longer, at least 4 hours or overnight for better flavor.
Can I Make This in an Air Fryer?
Yes, you can skip the oven, especially if you’re making a smaller quantity, like half the recipe.
Because of the smaller space in an air fryer, you will need to use a lower temperature and a shorter cooking time.
- Place the marinated wings in the air fryer basket in a single layer (work in batches if needed).
- Air fry at 380°F for 18 minutes, flipping halfway through.
- Brush with the honey Sriracha glaze, and air fry for about 2 more minutes until the glaze is caramelized to your liking.
